Caribbean Region

The Caribbean Region of Colombia is the country’s northernmost natural region, covering both land and sea areas. It is in the far north of Colombia, bordered by the Caribbean Sea to the north—where it gets its name—Venezuela to the east, the Andean Region to the south, and the Pacific Region to the west. Its main cities include Barranquilla, Cartagena de Indias, Soledad, Santa Marta, Valledupar, Montería, Sincelejo, Riohacha, and Apartadó.

Most of the Caribbean Region is a coastal plain that lies north of the Andes and stretches to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, before leading into the Guajira Peninsula. The Magdalena River delta is a key feature of the landscape, while the coastline runs smoothly from the Gulf of Urabá in the southwest to the Gulf of Coquibacoa in the northeast.
