Remote Guajira Expeditions

Trip details:

• Duration of the trip: 6 days and 5 nights.
• Trekking time: 2 hours daily over the beaches, the desert, dunes and the foothills of “Serrania de La Macuira”.
• Distance: 1-6 kms per day
• Ecosystem: desert, elfin cloudy evergreen forest, tropical dry forest, mountain forests, xerophytes savannah, dry steppe.
• Climate: warm and humid with an average temperature varying from 27 to 30°C.
• Elevation: 0-900 meters above sea level
• Location: La Guajira department, the northernmost region of Colombia

An unforgettable journey to the farthest limit of our country. We will visit emblematic places such as “El Cabo de la Vela”, “Punta Gallinas”, Manaure’s Salt Mine, Uribia city, The Macuira National Park and the Flamingos Sanctuary. We will travel in comfortable 4×4 vehicles with air conditioning, accompanied by expert guides from the region and we will have the opportunity to stay at Wayuu settlements and be in direct contact with this fascinating culture.

• As far as possible take the least amount of wrappers, cans or glasses and please, let’s return home all the inorganic waste that we carry in our backpack «if you carry it in your backpack, you can return in your backpack»
• Be previously vaccinated against yellow fever and tetanus.
• Don’t bring items that are typically used by the military (i.e. camouflage clothing).
• Don’t bring or take toxic, psychoactive or hallucinogenic and alcoholic substances.
• Bring the least amount of wrappers, cans or glass that you can.
• Don’t bring jewelry or other valuables (Rolex watches and Cartier earrings; please leave them at home!).
• During treks, please do not distance yourself from the group and please do not remain alone at any time.
• Have in mind that we will be staying in very remote places and our hosts will do everything for us as best as they can, given the local conditions and culture.
• We want that during our visit to these remote, remote and often forgotten territories, all: guides, coordinators and tourists, we contribute to the economy of these regions and small towns, buying in the stores, stores, bakeries and restaurants, their products and merchandise (such as sweets, chocolates, soft drinks, sweets, fruits, etc.) and acquiring local handicrafts. It is a small support through which we include these communities in the tourism value chain. If you like to consume very sophisticated foods or special diets (almonds, sugar-free chocolates, dried seeds or dehydrated fruits, for example), which you will not be able to get in the shops of the villages, we recommend you take them with you. Each participant should bring:

• Water Canteen, Thermo or Camelback, let’s avoid plastic or PET bottles and if we buy or take them we return them to our house!
• 2 cotton clothes for warm weather, light colors, shits with long-sleeves (don’t bring excess luggage).
• Bathing suit
• Towel
• Sleeping bag, tracksuit with long-sleeves for sleeping or a sheet. The area we will visit is semi-desert for that the nights can be cold, especially at daybreak
• Tennis shoes or hiking boots with good grip.
• Additional tennis shoes or sandals.
• Cap or hat
• Torch and extra batteries.
• Sunglasses
• A small backpack to use while trekking.
• Poncho (rain cape) – waterproof.
• Personal hygiene items in small quantities.
